The children at Samsungwon Orphanage look forward to the summer time as there is always an annual trip, whether it’s to Everland, swimming, or camping. For the last week of July in 2018, they went to a remote location about two hours away to enjoy swimming in a river pool and camping.
Summer 2018 was the hottest summer recorded in Korea’s history. So you can imagine the children loved cooling down with a swim, whether it was jumping into a smaller pool of water or making a zig-zag line of water tubes connected together. The younger children could be found looking for snails and trying to catch tadpoles with their net. You could hear the squeals as the small fish slipped through fingers as they tried to catch some with their bare hands.
During the two day trip, the older boys took advantage of playing a traditional Korean sport called Jokgu, which is a combination of volleyball and soccer. The children, staff, and KKOOM Board of Directors / Chief Administrator made lots of positive memories together. With the help of a special donor, each child received a t-shirt with the words “A Sky Full of Stars” by ColdPlay. It was a popular t-shirt in Korea this summer from the Korean brand TopTen.
The lyrics to the song represent a celebration after you’ve climbed a mountain, accomplishing something that is challenging. Chris Martin also said “it needs to be about unconditional love.” It’s an upbeat song that you can dance to and be unashamedly happy. Our desire is for the children at Samsungwon Orphanage to continue dancing through any challenges and they can look up to a sky full of stars, knowing how loved they are, especially from KKOOM’s supporters and friends around the world. Thank you for your prayers, support, and love you give to Korean children!
