What if there’s not a volunteer group listed for your area?
We’ve provided lists of orphanages and children’s homes in South Korea organized by province. To find an orphanage or group home in your area, please click on the link to the province or major metropolitan city in which you would like to volunteer. The contact information for the orphanages and group homes in each province and metropolitan city are organized in alphabetical order by district.
You should then contact the orphanage(s) or group home(s) you’re interested in volunteering at. Keep in mind that most orphanage staff members will not speak English, so if you do not speak Korean, have a friend who does make the initial contact for you.
Ask if you may volunteer at the orphanage by teaching English and/or playing with the children. If the orphanage staff agrees, we recommend you set up a regular schedule for when you will visit, as this is best for the children. It is ideal for volunteers to be consistent and go on a regular basis – weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc.
Please let us know if you have any further questions, or if we may be of more assistance to you. You may contact us at volunteer@koom.org. Also, if you do make use of this information and start volunteering regularly, please let us know so we can support your activities.
