Improving the Lives of Korean Youth Through Outreach and Education

[Day #8] Increase in Scholarship Funds

It is not easy to be an adult on your own in South Korea once you age out. You have two weeks to move out of the children’s home after your high school graduation and receive $4,000-$5,000 through government aid.

KKOOM currently has two college scholars who are receiving a semester scholarship of 700,000 won, thanks to the generous support of our donors. Minyeol is in a graduate program studying Theology and Jaehyuck is completing his Bachelor’s degree majoring in Security Management. You can read more about their progress in school here.

Due to inflation and the growth of the organization, we decided to dedicate more funds to support our college scholars. The KKOOM Board of Directors unanimously agreed to increase the scholarship funds from 700,000 won to 1,000,000 won a semester. We are taking intentional steps to create more programming and provide more resources for aged out youth and the college scholars we serve.

KKOOM’s Scholarship Program is funded through the generosity of our recurring donors. If you would like to be a part of changing the trajectory of a young adult’s life by funding their education, we invite you to give on a monthly basis. Let’s continue to uplift our college scholars Minyeol and Jaehyuck and better serve aged out youth from Korea’s social welfare system. In 2023, you will see more updates on how we are making plans to grow our impact for these programs so we can continue making a difference together.
